RAM 2500 Catches Fire After NHTSA Test

In its recent tests, NHTSA found that the RAM 2500 Heavy Duty crumples worse than the rest in a crash and even observed flames and smoke under the hood after its test.

With a two-star frontal crash rating and three-star rollover rating, the RAM 2500 Heavy Duty received an embarrassingly low score. What’s worse, NHTSA left a note underneath the unusually poor score saying it observed smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment shortly after the frontal crash test.

NHTSA went out of its way to comment that it does not see a defect trend with the RAM 2500, suggesting that just because its test truck exhibited smoke and flames, that doesn’t mean there’s a risk yours will too.

Last week we brought you a story rounding up the worst-rated vehicles in NHTSA’s most recent tests, but the RAM truck was the only one to catch fire this year.
